Medical Applications
ACT Plus
This application has been used for over ten years in a cardiac catheterisation laboratory to achieve a desired activated clotting time (ACT) within the range of 300 - 400 seconds after a single dose of heparin over 86% of the time. If the Act falls short, it can be used to reliably give the next dose that will achieve the desired result. At completion of the procedure, it reliably indicates a dose of protamine that will return the ACT to the pre-heparin state. It has also been used to identify the dos elf heparin and protamine in a small cardiac bypass series.
